Day 8: Destination Creativity Blog Hop

I’m so thrilled because today is my day for the Destination: Creativity blog hop put together by the vivacious Ricë Freeman Zachary. I can’t begin to tell you how much this woman has inspired me in the past year since we’ve become friends. Her creative spirit, her willingness to always be REAL in every situation and her ability to bring that out in others are attributes that I admire deeply in Ricë.

Also, her perfectly simpatico relationship with her husband, the Ever Gorgeous Earl is a wonderful thing to see in this day and age. I watched how Earl was ever-present and actively participating in every moment of this new book of theirs. Of course, its their book. EGE took thousands upon thousands of photos, drove every mile in their cross-country journey and passed out hugs to the hundreds of women (both instructors and students) at the various art retreats. (Truth be told, I’m always in line for a hug from Earl. Years of coaching high school athletics honed his body into a finely tuned hugging machine.)

In honor of Ricë and Earl’s journey and their wonderful new book, I decided to try something a little different for the blog hop; a video book review like she does for so many artists over at CreateMixedMedia.com. There’s no editing or fancy anything in the video. I gave my iPad to my son, stood outside our cabin and had him press the record button. It may be raw, but it’s real and definitely from the heart.

Be sure to leave a comment at the end of this post so you an be entered to win a copy of Destination: Creativity for yourself.

Tomorrow is the last day of the blog hop at Jill Berry’s blog. So be sure to check out what she says tomorrow and leave a comment there too. And while you’re at it, you might just want to hop back in time and visit the previous day’s authors as well. You can still leave comments there for a chance to win. Think about it: 30 minutes of your time to read some posts at great blogs and leave some comments is all it takes for you to possibly get your own free copy. Unfortunately due to the high cost of shipping, international entries cannot be accommodated for this one. So sorry!

  1. I loved hearing your review ~ I love you so much and you made the hairs stand up on my arm when your read Rice’s final words~ we aren’t alone and art retreats let us know that!

  2. The thing I love best about following these blog hops is getting to see (and hear!) what all you other creative folks are doing. Making art can be a lonely path sometimes, but that’s okay when I can connect with others on the way.

  3. Thanks for the great video- and yes she did hit the nail on the head from what you read. I feel so isolated most of the time…like I’m the only one who is doing what I’m doing. I spend most evenings reading blogs and trying to connect. Unfortunately, I’m not much of a blogger myself- just like reading other blogs. I have never attended an art retreat but am thinking I might have to in the future. Thanks for the great review!

  4. Thanks for the great video and blog hop. I have learned so much from visiting each blog with such talented artists. I’d love to win this book. Count me in!

  5. Love the video review approach! Thanks for sharing so much about the book, and offering us a chance to win a copy. I would LOVE to see it for myself.

  6. Love your review of Rice’s book! I haven’t been to an art retreat but will definitely attend one in the future!

  7. I love the idea of a video review. I’ve never had the good fortune (yet) to attend one of these great art retreats. Living in a small town in Kansas, I do feel isolated from things like this, and secretly (well not so secretly now) hope to organize a similar retreat here. This book would be so beneficial to me in that aspect, so I hope I am the lucky winner.

  8. Gosh Jen my eyes started to water as you read her words from the end of the book..saying its easy to feel alone when your not in an art community…I felt as though she was talking about ME.
I really enjoyed your review and it was so great to see you…and not just a picture…heehee.Have a great day!!Hugs,Cat

  9. Great Video! I have yet to meet Ricë but feel like I already know her from her podcasts and books. I am looking forward to reading this book and seeing which art retreat I might like to attend next. I have only been to Art and Soul in Portland.

  10. This book looks like so much fun! The inspiration at art retreats just recharges me and gets me excited again. Loved meeting Ricë this year at Art & Soul in Portland, Oregon… and the EGE! They are so fun, funny and real. :)

  11. So great to get an idea what is in the fabulous new book! I would LOVE to win it! I have never been to an art retreat, but am surely considering it! I think there’s one in CT which is near me in MA! Cape Cod would be an awesome spot for an art retreat (off-season when the rates are lower!), but it is still SO beautiful!

  12. Love the video Jen!! I’m having so much fun with this blog hop, thanks for this wonderful opportunity!

  13. Your video review worked its magic on me…now I hafta go to a retreat! And also hafta have Rice:s book! What a great salesperson you are! Thanks for being in the blog hop!

  14. I’m not pitching my name in to win the book, but OMG–that is just the sweetest video EVER! You’re so cute! And you’re so GOOD at this–I see more videos in your future, woman!

Thank you so much–I feel all tear-y. XO

  15. i just watched your review of Destination Creativity and it left me longing to attend an art retreat as I have never had an opportunity to do so…I live in upstate NY…and one would assume being just 90 min away from NYC, I would have a wide range of choices but not so….the expense not only of traveling but of the course!!!….and they aren’t tailored or as personal…I’m left to learn by purchasing lots of books (like EXPLORE,CREATE,RESINATE and MAKING CONNECTIONS) and various books to teach me…these are my bibles as far as I’m concerned and I thank y’all for sharing your knowledge otherwise I would be totally lost in the sauce (as my 19 year old daughter would say)…Destination Creativity seems to be another book I would love to add to my personal library and I wish Rice and Earl much success with it!!!

  16. Awesome! I love that you made a video from the heart. I am so intrigued and excited about the book. I really hope to win a copy. I have thoroughly enjoyed the blog hop too!

    Thanks!

  17. HI Jen!
Great video! Thanks so much for hosting this giveaway! I have all my fingers and toes crossed! This has been a great blog hop. Hugs! deb

  18. The book review alà Ricë was fabulous! I love art retreats and wish I could attend more. Thank you for the opportunity to win this book.

  19. Jen – I loved your video review of the book! Each daily teaser throughout this blog hop has me more and more convinced that I just have to end up with a copy of this book. Win won…great! If not, purchasing one will be well worth the $$.

  20. This is just too neat and you have a fabulous blog. Kudos to all of you for the thought of a Blog Hop — and, thanks for the opportunity to win the book. It would be terrific. Hugs from Alaska. kareninkenai

  21. Yea Rice and EGE!!! Jen, your video was great and I wish I was at the cabin with you (it reminds me of our neighbor’s cabin that I was lucky enough to stay in as a kid). I also really, really, really like your jacket. Okay, back to the book. I have gone to quilting retreats, but never an art retreat and I am so ready!!! I will get Destination Creativity even if my name isn’t one of the lucky ones drawn. Rice’s books are so fabulous and I can’t wait to see this new one. Thanks for the opportunity!

Thanks for taking the time to leave a reply!
